Once it begins, the poison ivy rash usually will clear on its own by 14-21 days. Poison ivy symptoms don’t cause a serious health risk, although they can still be quite unpleasant. The best type of relief is prevention, but that’s easier said than done. The first thing you should do for the treatment of poison ivy rash, regardless of whether you intend a natural or a medical treatment, is to take the following steps within 10-15 minutes of contact:
1. Apply rubbing alcohol to the infected area.
2. Rinse with water (any water).
3. Wash up with soap and warm water.
For weeping blisters, mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda in 4 cups of water. Dip squares of gauze in this mixture. Cover the blisters with wet gauze for 10 minutes, 4 times a day.
